Your little one's first steps are one of the most precious, but also the earliest, milestones in your child's life. This moment marks a new phase and foreshadows many beautiful, but also exciting events to come. For some parents, this realization can come with a lot of emotions and worries. The familiar living room, the permanent play corner for your baby, can suddenly fall short in retaining attention or guaranteeing safety. With the newly learned skills, your loved one can start exploring the horizons, and before you know it, your little one isn't where you last saw them. Of course babies and toddlers won't get very far, but that doesn't take away the stress that you will experience at certain times. In this blog we give you some tools for this special phase.
Give compliments
Learning to walk comes with ups and downs, literally and figuratively. For you as a parent, this takes some getting used to, but of course the same applies to your child. Therefore, stay calm in the presence of your baby and make sure that you encourage your sweetie enough. As a result, they dare more and more, and things get better on their own. Nice for you and for them!
Create a safe environment
Now that your little one is gradually moving through the room by itself, it is extremely important to have a child-friendly (living) space. Young babies can pull themselves up on furniture and have an increased risk of falling. The latter is of course obvious, but that does not mean that this is pleasant. It is best for all parties to limit this as much as possible. And when your little one falls, make sure they don't hit too hard. Think of a carpet or blanket – in other words, a soft surface. Avoid hard and slippery floors, as this increases the risk of falling because your child has less grip on it. And make sure that dangerous items are kept out of the little one's reach.
Limit the area
If you want to prevent your baby from going anywhere, but they are still too young for a closed playpen, it is useful to close off rooms or install a baby gate.
Use toys
By placing or holding a few toys here and there, you encourage your child to walk over to them. You can also choose to take a walker or car, so that your baby can walk independently with their toys.
Stay close
It may be tempting to take a quick walk elsewhere, but when your child is just learning to walk, sticking with it is essential. An accident can happen, especially when you don't know exactly how your own legs and feet work.
Buy a playpen
It's not there yet, but when your little one passes 24 months, they will be able to walk a lot further than during the early months of learning to walk. Certainly then it can be a surprise where they went. If you are still a bit hesitant about this, you can buy a playpen. In a playpen, children from 2 years old can play nicely, even with a friend. You can easily take this box with you anywhere, opening up a world of possibilities for you. Whether you go to the beach for a day, camping or a weekend away with friends or family, the mobile box can be taken with you. As a result, you are no longer limited to your own living space with the little one.
There are no fewer than three different playpens for sale at DERYAN!
We hope that we have been able to help you a bit with this blog. Remember, this is just a learning phase, and your little one will get the hang of it on its own. They will fall regularly, but will also get up again of their own volition. Young children are curious by nature, and many doors open for them with this new skill.
So don't worry too much, and enjoy your sweetheart!
