Blue Monday is said to be the most depressing day of the year. But why? This would be due to the dark days, failed resolutions and the idea that next vacations seem far away. Blue Monday falls on the third Monday in January, often in the middle of a busy period.
The term Blue Monday actually comes from the English term 'feeling blue'. This refers to a gloomy or depressed feeling. The color blue is also commonly known as a raw color. Doesn't sound very fun when you put it that way.
In addition, it is said that Blue Monday is mainly used for marketing purposes. For example, travel agencies try to generate extra sales on this day by selling trips to the sun. The sellers try to capitalize on the gloomy days and they do so by offering sunny holidays. So don't be too sensitive to this, although a sunny holiday can never hurt!
What is the best way to deal with a gloomy day? Keep moving and find nice company. Take your family for a walk in the woods or ask your friends if they would like to go to the beach for a day. Keeping moving or talking to someone will make you feel a lot better. In the end, it's not bad at all to feel gloomy every now and then. That's part of it! And do not forget; after rain comes.....
